Precision Medicine & Neurodiversity - A Discussion

Updated: Jun 5, 2023

The BAAC's 3rd Quarterly Meeting of 2023 will be an open discussion headed by our BAAC board members, on the intersection of precision medicine and neurodiversity on Zoom on Wednesday, June 28 12:00pm-1:00pm. This meeting is inspired by INSAR 2023's panel “Precision health for neurodiverse communities," which spurred much conversation within research, clinical, and neurodiverse communities.

As panelist Dr. Mary Doherty (founder of Autistic Doctors International and consultant anesthetist at Our Lady’s Hospital in Navan, Ireland) put it, “Can we do biomedical autism research, and particularly genomics research, in a neurodiversity-affirmative way?” Panel chair, Eva Loth (professor of cognitive neuroscience at King’s College London in the United Kingdom) added, “Whereas some find these two approaches highly compatible, due to a shared emphasis on how to best support diversity among autistic people, others have felt them to be polar opposites.”

Previous participation in INSAR 2023 or viewing of the panel's recording (which is available to INSAR 2023 attendees and INSAR members as soon as June 5) is not required but may inform your understanding of and contributions to this discusssion.

All BAAC members are welcome. If you are not yet a member, you may join by visiting our membership page. Event registration is highly encouraged on our EVENT PAGE. We look forward to having you join us!
